4 guys, 35-45, heading down to Fargo for a bit of golf and some evening silliness. Looking for the good night spots.
We%26#39;re interested potentially in everything from cool lounge to English Pub to live music to dance club. Just looking for something that qualifies as ';a great time'; on a Friday and Saturday as opposed to trying to find a particular scene.
Also, anyone familiar with the taxi situation? Grand Forks seems to have 2 or 3 cabs for the whole town....not sure what Fargo is like.
Thanks.
Nightlife in Fargo
Just got back so I鈥檒l answer my own question from our experiences.
The downtown Fargo scene is centered around Broadway rom 1st st going north a few blocks. Lots of bars, lounges, clubs, restaurants, and what-not to keep everyone occupied.
We started at Hotel Donaldson at Broadway and 1st Ave N. We had a great dinner in the lounge and a few drinks to get the night started. It鈥檚 a crowd of mostly 25+, well-appointed, having fun. Nice art on the walls. Great place to start the night or stay all night.
Next we hit Rooter鈥檚 next door. Younger crowd and it was too early in the evening when we got there. Seems to be a younger crowd (early 20s) mostly but still open to all. When they played Metallica鈥檚 Ride the Lightning, I wasn鈥檛 sure whether I was in the Twilight Zone, or whether I was having a great flashback to 1983.
Next up, Dempsey鈥檚 Irish Pub. Live band, great beer, lots of dancing, packed to the rafters. Tons of fun. Definitely recommend as a place you need to go when in Fargo. It鈥檚 on Broadway between 2nd and 3rd.
The Empire is a dive bar between 4th and 5th. It鈥檚 full of everyone and everything. There was a host of guys that looked like they stepped out of a time machine from the Yukon Klondike circa 1880. Real gold miner types. Also, young and young-at-heart having a riot and drinking Jagermeister at a breakneck pace. Good fun for a couple drinks between places. I wouldn鈥檛 make it a destination for the night.
Next up was a place called Sportsman鈥檚鈥?.or so I think. It was a block or two off Broadway and involved walking down some alley. (I guess the Jag had kicked in). Packed. Full of people in their mid to late 20s. Tons of fun, incredible jukebox blasting 80s tunes, and cheap drinks. 4 Rolling Rock for $13. I love the US. Only problem is that there is no dance floor. A shame. Recommend.
We had dinner at Old Broadway on Saturday night. Okay restaurant but certainly nothing like HoDo. They have a club/bar next door and if your idea of fun is wearing a ball cap on a Saturday night then this is your scene. It definitely the place to go when you just turn legal and there wasn鈥檛 a person in the place older than 25. We had a Jag shot and walked out. But I would bet that if this fits your age you鈥檇 have a riot. Big dance floor, great sound system, blackjack tables in the corner.
All in all, I don鈥檛 think I鈥檇 ever go back to Grand Forks. What a riot.
