best central location for walking

We will be in Bismarck for a couple days in July and are trying to pick a hotel. We would like to be able to walk around town and have restaurants and shops nearby. Is it better to stay north or south of the capitol grounds? We are considering the Radisson or the Comfort Suites. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

...I would choose.. south of the Capitol, but that%26#39;s not really based on anything it%26#39;s just my own personal preference at the moment... did you have any specific types of restaurants or shops in mind?

personally, I%26#39;ve liked staying at Expressway Inn when I%26#39;ve been in Bismarck, cuz%26#39; they are just across the street from Kirwood Mall, %26amp; beyond Kirwood Mall there%26#39;s a Barnes %26amp; Noble (%26amp; a tiny strip of other stores) %26amp; they serve donuts %26amp; other pastries for breakfast... I think they also have a shuttle service to %26amp; from the Bismarck Airport (but double check, just in case, if that%26#39;s something you would want in particular)... to warn you though, I know somebody else who doesn%26#39;t like staying there because he says he has a difficult time falling asleep there with all the traffic going by throughout the night (on the other hand, I suppose a person could try asking for a room away from the street), so if you%26#39;re like him, then maybe Expressway Inn isn%26#39;t the one you want... %26amp; as I said it depends on what you have in mind, maybe you%26#39;d rather be closer to the old downtown, I can%26#39;t think of any places to stay in that area at the moment though, I do suggest visiting a little store on a corner along 5th Street called ';One World Imports'; though, if you go by it... I think there are a few people around this forum who are actually living in Bismarck now though, so maybe they%26#39;ll come up with some more suggestions for you sooner or later...

If you%26#39;ll be in Bismarck try taking a riverboat cruise, kinda dorky but fun. Also if you like history try Fort Mandan. Two great places to eat are Meriwethers and The Walrus.
